Exposing the Truth...

Warning:  this post is going to expose a lot.

Here's the truth.  Over the last three days, I have felt like a big failure.  While I try to pride myself in raising boys who will become good husbands - like wiping the toilet seat after peeing, teaching them how to say, "It's okay, honey, I can cook tonight!" and other little tidbits - there is one area that I just can't get right.  I am failing miserably in teaching one little boy who shall remain nameless but he looked like this when he was a baby...

...to suck it up and not WHINE incessantly when he has the "man/boy cold."  Over the last few days, I have come close to kicking Brian (oops, he has been outed) out of the house.

Don't get me wrong - I love this little boy.  I really do.  You all know that.  But - okay, I'll really expose the truth - his whining started before this cold.  And I want it to stooopppppppp nowwwwwww!!!

There was a day when Gavin and Brian played happily together all the time.

And they even - gulp - touched the same toy.
But now... I hear things like "That's mine!"  "Gavin, go away."  When we're in the bathroom I hear, "Mommy - close the door so Gavin doesn't come in."

And the whining.  Oh, the whining.

I don't wannnnttttt toooooooo.
I cannnnnnnn'ttttttttt.
Nooooooo!!

I pride myself, too, on having a lot of patience.  A lot.  But suddenly, it's wearing thin.  I find myself in the bathroom "going pee pee" for thirty minutes with the water running.  Or pretending I hear and see nothing as I walk amongst the madness.

I've been googling child psychology websites and every single one says that this is normal child development.  So I have now moved on to the adult psychology websites to learn how to handle this without running away and joining the circus.

I just can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*wink*

The only thing that will make me feel better is to show you the scandalous "topless photo" of Kate Middleton, the future Queen of England.  I stumbled upon it accidentally when I googled "Will Kate (meaning me) lose her top??" which apparently has a double meaning.

So, I will share the photo I found with you

  1. AWWW! I would like to tell you the whining subsides, but i would be lieing. It doesn't! And dont' worry about the not sharing, that really doesn't get much better in the teen years either, lol. At my house the latest is SHE has my ear phones, or HE is looking through my ipod.UGGHHHH.
Hang in there though, once they are older, you really can ignore, imean not hear them ;)

  2. I don't know if its just because I am the aunt but...whenever my 8 year old niece whines I just say...you sound tired. Do you need a nap? LOL stops it right in it's tracks. I always encourage kids to talk about how they feel but they aren't allowed to whine about it. I tell Savanna if she has a problem with the way something is going, she needs to talk to me in a reasonable voice.
