Breaking Out The Showtunes...

We are now the proud owners of our second Honda Odyssey Minivan and I couldn't be more thrilled. Ed came home with it last night which was quite a surprise! I knew he was going to the dealer - and we discussed the pros and cons of trading in our current Odyssey for the new model - but I didn't know if he'd get it, let alone drive home in it last night! It was an offer we couldn't refuse...and it will really grow with our hopefully growing family. In our minds, we won't need a new minivan for the next ten years. Make no mistake...I will need my mid life crisis convertible sports car, but we're good on minivans for a while. Just want to be clear about that.

Miss Wendy rescheduled her normal Friday Physical Therapy session with Gavin to this morning and Gavin was not happy. Well, mostly unhappy - he did throw us a few smiles here and there. We made a few adjustments to his walker and then had him practice stepping and steering. As you can see, it was quite a frustrating experience for my little guy...
We moved to the stairs. Gavin is really good at crawling up the stairs...when he wants to. Today, not so much. But we pushed him to crawl up and then practice going down backwards.
I have to say, I used to freak a little when Gavin would get upset in therapy. I'd want to stop and comfort him and sometimes even say "let's end". I've come a long way...and so has he. I see his protests and tears with different eyes - grateful that he has an opinion and a personality and "gumption". I realized that much of that "temper" has led to progress, even incidentally. So now I only stop if he gets SO upset that I can tell he'll vomit. Otherwise, I take some deep breaths and pull out some show stopping songs (complete with *jazz hands*) to entertain him.

Miss Maggie was back this afternoon, too, for speech therapy! They worked on the iPad and even though (true confessions) we practiced very little during the break - he did better than ever! Maybe we should slack off more often?
Gavin was very happy during Speech - likely because it was centered around books. He loves his books! Miss Maggie brought some really adorable books with CD's that go along with them. We pulled out "No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed", one of Gavin's all time favorites, and his smile had me running to Amazon to buy it. Check it out...

Brian had a great day! During Gavin's PT, he and Miss Katja went for a walk outside. Lately he has been putting on sunglasses and keeping them on, which is quite adorable. Another new "talent" is screeching. Brian is obsessed with hearing his voice - the louder the better. I'm not going to lie - it's insanely annoying. But I don't want to discourage his experimentation or his expressiveness! I decided to not react as I know that's what he's looking for. Sometimes he'll bend down to put his face in front of mine - looking for a reaction. Sounds mean of me, but I figure if I don't encourage the behavior it will be a short lived phase. Listen - and tell me what YOU think. Could YOU live with these sounds all day long? Ha ha ha....

In other exciting Brian news, his new bedroom furniture arrived! I already have the night table set up, but I'll need someone to help Ed with the heavy dresser and bed. I'm delicate like a flower, you know. The other day when we chose this bed for Brian, we came home to a funny realization. Ed and I went to bed that night realizing that we picked the SAME EXACT bed for Brian that WE just got for ourselves less than a year ago!!! Matching parent/child beds. I think we've started a cool trend.
